different visa options.

Skilled – Independent Visa
A permanent visa for people who can pass a points
test.

Skilled – Sponsored Visa
A permanent visa for people who are either sponsored
by an eligible relative living in Australia or nominated
by a participating State or Territory government. A
points test applies.

Skilled – Regional Sponsored Provisional Visa
A three year provisional visa for people who are
either sponsored by an eligible relative living in a
designated area of Australia or nominated by a
participating state/territory government. After living
for two years and working for at least one year in a
Regional Area, applicants can apply for a permanent
visa.

Skilled – Recognised Graduate Visa
An 18 month temporary visa for graduates of
nominated faculties from recognised overseas educational
institutions outside Australia.

An 18 months visa for overseas students who have
obtained an Australian qualification in Australia as a
result of at least two years study.

Skilled – Regional Sponsored Visa
Provisional visa for three years for overseas
students. Applicants must be either sponsored by an

Australia or nominated by a participating

qualification in Australia as a result of at least two
(2) years study. Applicants must pass a points test.

(2) years study who have either a relative (link to
relatives) in Australia to sponsor them or a nomination

Permanent Visa option for provisional visa holders
who have lived for at least two years and worked for at
least one year in a Regional Area in Australia.

Some
General Information
Age –
you must be aged between 18 and 44 years;
Qualifications – you must have a degree, diploma or
trade certificate (in some cases equivalent on the job
training and work experience can be taken into account);
Occupation – you must have skills and/or
qualifications related to an occupation on the
skilled occupation list (SOL).
Work
Experience – Immediately prior to an application,
the primary applicant must have been in recent paid
employment in one skilled occupation on the Skilled
Occupation List for Australian Immigration, for 12
months out of the past 24 months. Some
International Students in Australia would be exempt from
this criteria.

Skills
Assessment – you must obtain a positive skills
assessment from the relevant assessing body of your
skilled occupation before you lodge your visa

Visa
Application – the visa application can proceed once
you have obtained a skilled assessment and meet all
other essential criteria for an application.
